Housemaster's Weekly News

The Band 'Not Friends of Malema' Mark and Dion
What a lovely night was had by those who attended the Pub Quiz Night last Friday evening with Dion van der Merwe (grade 11 parent) and his mate, Mark, strumming out some of our old favourites to us while we scoffed delicious greasy fish'n chips. Not a huge crowd and many non appearances did make the 'pub' rather large, but this did not dampen spirits. Wonderful prizes from weekend getaways, wine, gift packs, coolers, meal vouchers to a weekend getaway were up for grabs. The weekend getaway to Bamboo Guest House in Hermanus was spontaneously auctioned by the housemaster in an attempt to make up for lost funds due to over-catering went for a good price and a bargain to the Soll family. Once again, thank you so much to all those who helped. I want to thank Kathy particularly because she puts in so much extra effort on occasions like these to help make the evening a success. I have told her that she must take a friend out and White House will fit the bill!

Vociferous support from Flax and Soll et al

The senior debaters, Andrew Earl, Tshepo Motale and Mike Foxcroft after their triumph in the previous week against Birt House, had a tough time against the experienced Founder’s team who had the advantage of proposing that Post Matrics should be allowed to play rugby. There are without doubt far more arguments against this, so one would think that we had the upper hand, but considering two of our debaters, Mike Foxcroft and Tshepo Motale, have a very high stakes in the 1st XV, it is was just too emotionally rough for them to argue against the proposal with any conviction considering the events of recent weeks. Matters were not made any easier that when at supper I realized after asking if they were prepared, I was greeted with blank stares.....they had forgotten about the ensuing debate....or, as I suspect, had chosen to forget. Despite all of this, I have to congratulate the team as they were up against very tough opposition with a team that had representatives that had travelled the globe debating and one who represented the College nationally. Next time....

Tshepo Motale must be congratulated on his selection to the Western Province Craven Week XV. Well done Tshepo, now for the SA side! On rugby, it dawned on me while watching some matches over the last weekend that two White House ODs featured; Francoise Louw playing for the Stormers and Matthew Turner who played for the England Sevens team. Not bad!

Phil Court, White House tutor and renowned Geography teacher, turned a ripe 50 last weekend! We wish him a belated Happy Birthday!

The seniors, grades 10 to 12, started their exams on Tuesday and judging by the relative quiet in the dorms, all are preparing hard. Some of the grade 8s will be writing exams for the first time, as the Prep do not write exams in grade 7, so there are quite a lot of nerves amongst them.

It looks like a wet and dreary weekend is approaching which will be perfect for me as I will be marking my grade 11 and 12 matric exam scripts in an attempt to complete them by Monday.

Warren is on duty this weekend . Please see the weekend details on the 'Weekend Details page'
